First Stakeholder Forum for Preparation of Management Plans for the Sava River Basin

About

On Wednesday, September 23, the 1st Stakeholder Forum for the Preparation of the third Sava River Basin Management Plan (RBMP), the second Flood Risk Management Plan (FRMP), and the first Sediment Management Plan (SMP), took place in Zagreb.

The Forum was organized within the framework of the Sava and Drina Rivers Corridors Integrated Development Program (SDIP), supported by the World Bank and Global Environmental Facility, and formed part of the stakeholder engagement process accompanying the development of the three basin-wide management plans. The preparation of these plans represents a major milestone for transboundary cooperation in the Sava River Basin. Together, they will provide an integrated framework for sustainable water, flood and sediment management, supporting environmental protection, economic development, climate resilience and the well-being of communities across the basin.

The objectives of the Forum were twofold:

  • Showcase completed intermediate activities, stimulate discussion and gather feedback on specific technical topics for the RBMP, FRMP and SMP.

  • Establish a foundation for continued stakeholder involvement throughout the planning process and the development of coordinated and implementable basin-wide measures.

The ISRBC and the project team strongly encouraged participation from a broad range of stakeholder organisations representing water management, flood risk management, navigation, hydropower, agriculture, industry, environmental protection, local authorities, academia and civil society.

The meeting took place in the Hotel Academia in Zagreb on 23 September, between 09:30h and 17:00h, and was organised as in person event.
